The BBC has launched a new Arabic language TV channel.

The channel is free to everyone in North Africa and the Middle East with a satellite or cable connection.

It will distinguish itself from other state-funded channels by reporting “without fear or favour”, BBC World Service director Nigel Chapman said.

This is the BBC’s second attempt at an Arabic channel. The first closed in 1996 in the wake of an editorial dispute with its Saudi funders.

تمكن المستثمر الأمريكي وارين بافيت من ازاحة صديقه وشريكه السابق بيل جيتس من موقع الرجل الأكثر ثراء في العالم في قائمة مجلة فوربس.

وكان جيتس المؤسس المشارك لشركة ميكروسوفت قد ظل يتربع على أعلى قائمة أغنى أغنياء العالم لمدة 13 عاما على التوالي.

وقد زادت ثروة بافيت بعشرة مليارات دولار العام الماضي لتبلغ 62 مليار دولار.

أما ثروة بيل جيتس فزادت 2 مليار دولار خلال الفترة نفسها لتصل إلى 58 مليار دولار وبذلك تراجع إلى المرتبة الثالثة في قائمة أغنى الأغنياء.

اما في المركز الثاني فقد جاء المكسيكي اللبناني الاصل كارلوس سليم هيلو صاحب شركات الاتصالات الذي بلغت ثروته 60 مليار دولار بعد أن تضاعفت خلال العامين الأخيرين.

وتضمنت قائمة مجلة فوربس لعام 2008 أسماء 1125 من اصحاب المليارات بلغ مجموع ثراواتهم 4.4 تريليون دولار.

وقال ستيف فوربس المدير العام لمجلة فوربس “السبب في هذا التوسع الهائل في الثروة هو أننا نشهد طفرة كونية، فلم يحدث من قبل في تاريخ البشرية أن كان هناك عدد كبير من أصحاب المليارات كما حدث خلال السنوات الأخيرة

This is an interesting video containing footage of Lulu – an Arab-speaking parrot with a native-like accent!

It was trained by a Arab person from Abu-Dhabi, in UAE over a period of four years.

His trainer taught the parrot to greet visitors to his home with “Assalamu Alaikum السلام عليكم ” and to bid them farewell with “Massalamah السلامة”

Lulu knows some Ayahs (verses) from the Qur’an namely “Surah Ikhlas” and how to make dua (i.e. prayer) for Muslim men and women – specifically asking for them to have forgiveness from God.

He also knows how to say “In the name of Allah, the most gracious the most beneficial بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم ” and “God is Great الله أكبر “

This second video clip shows another parrot who speaks Arabic with an asian accent. His owner, who is from Pakistan, trained the parrot to recite the Qur’an, especially Sura Al-Fatiha ( الفاتحة ) and Al-Ikhlas ( الإخلاص )
